About Matou

Matou is in development for macOS 14 and later. Release information will be published here.

    • Which email accounts work with Matou?

      Any provider that offers IMAP and SMTP should work. Matou supports OAuth for configured providers, plus passwords or app passwords where they are allowed.

    • Is Matou sandboxed?

      Yes. The main app uses the macOS App Sandbox. Credentials and private identities live in Keychain, and local mail stays in Matou’s container.

    • Can Matou use my existing GnuPG keys?

      Yes, through the optional GPG Connector. It is distributed separately because a sandboxed App Store app cannot directly use ~/.gnupg, gpg-agent, or smart-card tools.

    • Does Matou support S/MIME?

      Yes. Matou can sign, verify, encrypt, and decrypt S/MIME messages, discover certificates, and import PKCS#12 identities.

    • Does my mail pass through Matou servers?

      No. Matou connects directly to the incoming and outgoing services you configure. Key discovery contacts WKD or a keyserver only when you use it.

    • When can I download Matou?

      Matou is still in development. Download and release details will appear here when the public build is ready.
